The Head of Public Relations for the Bank of Zambia (Zambia's Central Bank), Kanguya Mayondi, has announced that the Bank of Zambia had requested that the government of Zambia declare Monday, December 31, 2012, as a one-off bank holiday to allow for a smooth transition to the new Kwacha (Zambia's national currency).
The aforementioned Monday, December 31, 2012, as a one-off bank holiday is contingent on the Zambian Ministry of Finance creating the necessary statutory instrument to have December 31 declared a public holiday.
