Azerbaijan's Cabinet of Ministers has issued a decree moving the upcoming presidential election non-working public holiday in Azerbaijan from Wednesday, October 16, 2013, to Wednesday, October 9, 2013.
Last spring (01-May-2013), Azerbaijan's Parliament approved amendments to the electoral code of Azerbaijan which declare the date of future elections as one-off electoral non-working public holidays in Azerbaijan. In addition, as per the aforementioned amendments, "if the election falls on holiday, it will be replaced by the Central Election Commission by another working day of the month... to regulate the citizens' right to rest".
The upcoming presidential election was supposed to be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, but as this date coincides with the second day of this year's Gurban Bayram (Feast of Sacrifice) public holiday, it was moved to the week before.
