Canada Push To Rename Victoria Day Public Holiday

Source: CTV News (Ottawa)

A group of "prominent Canadians" has launched an online petition calling on Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to change the name of the Victoria Day non-working public holiday.

As per the aforementioned petition, the annual Victoria Day non-working public holiday (called National Patriots' Day in the Province of Quebec) should be renamed "Victoria and First Peoples Day" to highlight the fact that "for centuries, Canadians, the First Nations, the Inuit, and the Metis have had a close affinity with the British Monarchy".
