A bill has been introduced into the lower house of Colombia (Cámara de Representantes) to declare May 12 as a new annual non-working public holiday in Colombia.

The aforementioned bill, introduced by Carlos Alberto Zuluaga, would amend Colombia's Law 51 of 1983, which specifies the dates of the 10 annual religious holidays and 8 annual civil holidays. Law 51 of 1983, is also named Ley Emiliani, after its architect, who died a decade ago (2005-10-02).

On May 12, 2013, Madre Laura Montoya Upegui will become the first Saint from Colombia.
