The Iraqi Secretariat of the Council of Ministers has once more declared Wednesday, December 25, 2013, as a non-working public holiday on account of the upcoming Christmas Day.
Five years ago (2008-12-24), the Government of Iraq had announced that Thursday, December 25, 2008, would be a public holiday to coincide with Christmas Day. at the time it was not clear whether this would be a one-off non-working public holiday in Iraq, or would be recurring in the future.
Indeed, since then, Christmas was only re-declared as a non-working public holiday in Iraq in 2012, and then only regionally (2012-12-19). This time, however, the declaration of Christmas Day as a public holiday in Iraq does seem set to remain an annual event.
