In a surprise move, the governor of Iraq's Kurdistani Regional Government has announced that the upcoming, January 6, Army Day holiday would be observed as a non-working public holiday in Kurdistan.
Until recently, the January 6, Army Day, public holiday was observed in all of Iraq, except Kurdistan, where the army tended to be viewed as a force of occupation and oppression.
