Due to the ongoing massive downpour, the Bank of Mauritius (Mauritius' Central Bank), with the approval of the Vice-Prime Minister of Finance and Economic Development, has announced that it had declared today, Wednesday, February 13, 2013, as a one-off bank holiday when all banks and financial institutions of Mauritius will close.

According to local media reports, although the government of Mauritius has stopped short of declaring today a one-off general non-working public holiday, most public and private sector institutions nevertheless chose to close for the day, and economic activity in Mauritius has ground to a halt.
