Mozambique's Minister of Labour, Helena Taipo, has announced that Thursday and Friday, January 2 and 3, 2014, had been declared as one-off public holidays in Mozambique "to give Mozambicans a five day New Year".
As per the aforementioned announcement the upcoming one-off non-working public holiday in Mozambique "does not extend to workers whose nature of work does not allow for interruption and where a disruption would negatively affect the public interest".
The declaration of one-off non-working public holidays is a relatively common feature of Mozambique's official public holidays calendar (2013-08-01, 2012-12-21, 2011-12-05, 2011-10-16, 2010-12-29, 2010-12-23,...), in particular as Mozambique's Labour Code gives the Minister of Labour the authority to declare one-off public holidays in Mozambique.
