Panama's government cabinet (Consejo de Gabinete) has approved a resolution removing the annual, January 9, non-working public holiday in Panama, from the list of movable, mid-week, dias puentes public holidays set out 5 years ago.
The aforementioned decision thus reverses part of the provisions of the "Ley 70 del 28 de diciembre de 2007" (2008-01-03 and 2007-12-30) which restored the mechanism of días puente (bridge holidays) to some of Panama's public holidays (Gaceta No. 25950 del 2 de enero de 2008).
The practice of moving mid-week public holidays to a nearby weekend had been halted by the provisions of the "Ley 51 que deroga el Decreto Ley Nº 8 de 1997, que estableció los días puentes y modifica el Articulo 46 del Código de Trabajo 03-X-1999" (1999-11-01).
