The public sector's human resources department of the government of Puerto Rico (ORHELA) has released the annual "Memorando Especial", which lists Puerto Rico's public sector holidays for the upcoming calendar year 2014.
The document, signed by ORHELA's Director, Samuel G. Dávila Cid, seems to indicate that the draft bill "Proyecto de la Cámara 1387", introduced 5 years ago (2009-04-06), will never come to pass. This draft bill, would have reduced the number of public sector holidays from 19 to 15, and had been approved by Puerto Rico's Chamber of Representatives (2009-06-23). However, since then it seems stuck in the Senate.
As always (2012-06-19, 2011-07-26, 2010-04-05, and 2009-08-10), the private sector benefits from far fewer public holidays than the public sector. Banks usually follow the public sector holidays, except in cases when these fall on a Sunday.
