Sierra Leone's Minister of Labour and Social Security, Martin Theambo, has called for the declaration of May 1st as a new annual non-working public holiday throughout Sierra Leone.

The aforementioned call comes a few months after the first occurrence (2013-03-07) of the new annual non-working public holiday on March 8 which followed the announcement, a couple of years ago (2011-03-30), by President Ernest Bai Koroma, that as from the "following year", International Women's Day, on March 8, would be recognized as a public holiday throughout Sierra Leone.
