Earlier today, the UAE's Minister of Education, Chairman of Board of Directors of the Federal Authority for Human Resources, Humaid Mohamed Al Qattami, issued a circular stating that the public sector holiday for the upcoming Milad Al Nabi (Prophet's Birthday) would be on Tuesday, January 24, 2013.
In a separate announcement, the UAE's Minister of Labour, Saqr Ghobash, announced that Tuesday, January 24, 2013, would also be a paid non-working public holiday for the UAE's private sector.
Note that Thursday is no longer (2006-08-15) part of the UAE's weekend, but in any event the Cabinet decree No. 13 of 2010 and the federal cabinet resolution no. 11 of 2008 ("A public holiday shall not be transferred or compensated if it falls on a public holiday or at the weekend") preclude day in lieu public holidays when public holidays fall on a weekend, although there have been recent exceptions to that rule (2011-01-31).
