Following the selection of Dubai as the venue for the World Expo 2020, there was wide speculation that Thursday, November 28, 2013, would be declared a non-working public holiday in the UAE, or at least in Dubai, but the UAE Vice-President and Ruler of Dubai ruled-out the declaration of Thursday, November 28, 2013, as a non-working public holiday in the UAE.

However, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the UAE Vice-President and Ruler of Dubai, did announce that Thursday, November 28, 2013, would be a holiday for all educational institutions across the UAE.
