The Algerian government, through its Premier ministère, chargé de la Réforme du Service Public has announced that Thursday, May 1st, 2014, had been declared a non-working public holiday, on account of the upcoming "fête du Travail".
Contrary to previous occasions (2012-04-30), the aforementioned announcement applies to both the private and public sectors ("sera chômée et payée pour l'ensemble des personnels des institutions et administrations publiques, des établissements et offices publics ainsi que pour les personnels des entreprises publiques et privées de l'ensemble des secteurs et statuts juridiques").
This is a departure from the current legislation regulating non-working public holidays in Algeria (loi n° 63-278 du 26 juillet 1963 modifiée et complétée fixant la liste des fêtes légales), but in line with the yet-to-be-approved draft legislation to amend the current public holidays legislation in Algeria (2014-02-07).
