The Algerian public sector ministry (Direction Générale de la Fonction Publique) has announced that Saturday, October 25, 2014, had been declared as a non-working public holiday in Algeria on account of the Hijri 1436 Islamic New Year.
As usual (2014-10-03, 2014-07-27, 2013-11-13, 2012-11-14, 2012-08-17 and 2011-02-13), the aforementioned announcement that Saturday, October 25, 2014, had been declared as a non-working public holiday in Algeria ("la journée du samedi Awal Moharram correspondant au 25 octobre 2014 est chômée et payée pour l'ensemble des personnels des institutions et administrations publiques y compris les personnels payés à l'heure ou à la journée") on account of the Hijri 1436 Islamic New Year, follows an earlier communiqué by the Algerian Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments (Ministère des Affaires religieuses et du Wakf).
Recall that, 5 years ago (2009-07-24), the Algerian government changed its weekends from Thursday/Friday to the "mixed" or "semi-universal" Friday/Saturday weekend.
