The Ministry of Labour of the Dominican Republic has issued an official communiqué confirming that the upcoming "Día de Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia" annual non-working public holiday would be observed, as usual, on its traditional date of January 21, 2014.
The Ministry of Labour goes on to remind the population that, for the first time, the January 26 public holiday for the "día del natalicio de Juan Pablo Duarte, Padre de la Patria", would be observed on its traditional date of January 26, 2014.
The aforementioned announcements are in line with last fall's official listing of public holidays in the Dominican Republic for the year 2014 (24-Oct-2013), and follows the 1997 "Ley No. 139-97 mediante la cual los días feriados del calendario que coincidan con los días martes y miércoles, jueves o viernes" (19-Jun-1997), as amended last summer (27-Jul-2013) by a bill which removes the January 6 and 26 annual non-working public holidays from the scope of the law 139-97 which regulates non-working public holidays in the Dominican Republic.
