The President of the Gambia Yahya Jammeh has announced that the upcoming annual non-working public holiday in the Gambia for the Prophet's Birthday (Gamo) would be observed on Tuesday, January 14, 2014.

Interestingly, but perhaps not surprisingly, the aforementioned announcement runs contrary to the announcement, 5 years ago (2009-09-01), by Yaya Jammeh and the Gambian Supreme Islamic Council (SIC), that from then on the dates of Muslim public holidays would be calculated in line with the Umm al-Qura calendar used by Saudi Arabia (which, if it did observe a public holiday for the Prophet's Birthday, would be observing it on Monday, January 13, 2014).
