The Kuwaiti Civil Service Commission has announced that it had declared Thursday, May 29, 2014, as another day in lieu non-working public holiday for the upcoming Israa and Meraj (Prophet's Ascension) annual public holiday.

Similarly to what was done in past years (2011-06-27, 2009-07-09, 2008-07-09 and 2007-08-04), but not recently (2013-06-14 and 2012-05-11), the Kuwaiti Civil Service Commission moved the 2014 date of the Israa and Meraj annual public holiday to adjoin a weekend.

The moving of some of Kuwait's public holidays to adjoin the nearest Kuwait weekend, was re-confirmed in 2008 (2008-03-26) following an imbroglio related to the expected date for the Western New Year public holiday, earlier that year (2007-12-26). The weekend in Kuwait changed from Thursday/Friday to Friday/Saturday, in 2007 (2007-06-03).
