Late last night, the President of Maurtitania, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, has issued a communique extending the previously-announced date of Monday, July 28, 2014, by one day for the upcoming Aid El Fitr (End of Ramadan) annual non-working public holiday in Mauritania ("La journée du mardi 29 juillet suivant celle du Aid El Fitr est déclarée journée fériée, chômée et payée.").

The day before (2014-07-27), Mauritania's Commission centrale d'observation du croissant lunaire had announced that the upcoming Aid El Fitr (End of Ramadan), and first day of the corresponding annual non-working public holiday in Mauritania, would be observed on Monday, July 28, 2014, in Mauritania.

But, contrary to some previous years (2005-10-31, 2001-12-13, 2001-03-04, and 2000-01-05), but not all (2013-10-09, 2011-11-01), the President of Maurtitania, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, at that time, had not issued a specific decree extending the Aid El Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holiday for a second day in Mauritania, although, as we had written at the time, it is implicitly understood that this would be the case.

The aforementioned date of Monday, July 28, 2014, for the first day of theAid El Fitr (End of Ramadan) annual non-working public holiday in Mauritania, corresponds to a change of one day as compared to the dates that were announced, earlier this year (2014-01-02), in the list of official non-working public holidays in Mauritania for the calendar year 2014.
