The Nepalese Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the government of Nepal had once again declared Friday, January 31, 2014, as a non-working public holiday on account of the upcoming Sonam Lhosar festival marking the beginning of the Tamang New Year.

Nepal celebrates more than one Lhosar public holiday (Lhosar meaning New Year) as Nepal's various ethnic communities observe their New Year at different times of the year (08-Feb-2013, 20-Feb-2012, 22-Jan-2012, 04-Mar-2011, 13-Feb-2010, 29-Dec-2009, 24-Feb-2009, 07-Mar-2008, and 18-Feb-2007) with Tamang Lhosar having gained official non-working public holiday status 4 years ago (05-Jan-2010).
