The Philippines Government has issued an official statement on Twitter denying new rumours that Wednesday, October 15, 2014, had been, or would be, declared as an additional non-working public holiday in the Philippines.

In its statement, Malacañang referred to Proclamation No. 655, s. 2013, signed by President Benigno Aquino III, last year (2013-09-30), and which lists the special and regular non-working public holidays in the Philippines for the calendar year 2014.

The need for the Government of the Philippines to issue last-minute statements denying the declaration of day in lieu, or bridge, public holidays is common (2014-08-19, 2014-07-21, 2014-06-08, 2014-02-24, 2013-10-23, 2012-12-27, 2012-07-12, 2012-06-03 and 2012-03-07).

Under former president Macapagal-Arroyo, the concept of holidays economics had seen mid-week public holidays moved to adjoin a nearby weekend (2007-07-25).
