The Romanian Senate is considering a new bill that would automatically declare a bridge public sector holiday in Romania, whenever an annual official non-working public holiday in Romania, falls within 1 day of a nearby weekend (ie. on a Tuesday or Thursday).
As per the aforementioned bill, whenever the interval is 24 hours between an annual official non-working public holiday in Romania (as defined by Article 139, paragraph 1, of the Romanian Labour Code), and a weekly day of rest (as defined by Article 137, paragraph 1, of the Romanian Labour Code).
The aim of the present bill is to create a "full schedule predictability" an to fill the "legal vacuum in this matter" which meant, in past years, that such bridge public holidays would be declared on an ad hoc, often last-minute, basis (2014-04-08, 2013-12-13, 2013-08-14, 2013-03-07, 2012-11-28 and 2012-04-26).
The bill goes on to state that for periods of more than 24 hours, when an annual non-working public holiday in Romania, falls on a Wednesday, then the decision will be the purview of the government.
