The Holidays and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2015 (switching the dates of the Birthday of the Sovereign and of the Labour Day public holidays) has been referred to the Finance and Administration Committee of the parliament of the Australian state of Queensland for consideration, and the committee is required to report back to Parliament by August 10, 2015.

Four years ago (2011-12-03, 2011-11-08 and 2011-11-05), the Bligh Labor government of the Australian State of Queensland announced that it would amend the 2016 public holidays in Queensland (2013-11-20), and that beginning in 2012, the Queen's Birthday non-working public holiday would be moved from the 2nd Monday in June to the 1st Monday in October, while on the same occasion, a one-off public holiday for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee would be observed in June 2012 in Queensland.

A year later (2012-09-11, 2012-08-20 and 2012-06-12), the Newman government announced further amendments to the Holidays Act 1983, whereby from 2013 onward, the dates of the Birthday of the Sovereign (Queen's Birthday) public holiday and of the Labour Day public holiday were changed.

Then, earlier this year, shortly after its election (2015-02-15), the Palaszczuk government of the Australian State of Queensland, confirmed, and then re-confirmed (2015-03-13), that it was planning to make further amendments to the Holidays Act 1983, so that the Labour Day annual public holiday, in the State of Queensland, would no longer be observed on the first Monday in October. Beginning in 2016, in Queensland, Labour Day non-working public holiday would be held on the first Monday of May, and the Queen's Birthday non-working public holiday will be held on the first Monday in October.
