Ecuador's Minister of Labor, Leonardo Berrezueta, has issued a Twitter communique ruling-out the rumoured declaration of December 31, 2015, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Ecuador ("Importante: El 31 de diciembre se labora normalmente, no existe ninguna disposición de feriado. Circulan decretos falsos en redes.").
A similar communiqué was issued by Ecuador's Secom (Secretaría Nacional de Educación), "Reiteramos que el día jueves 31 de diciembre de 2015 se laborará normalmente. El día viernes 1 de enero será feriado nacional como se estipuló en el Decreto Ejecutivo No 1162 de 3 de mayo de 2012".
In the past (2014-04-30 and 2013-04-29), similar communiqués were issued by Ecuador's Ministry of Tourism (Ministerio de Turismo), in line with the Decreto 1162, which was released (2012-05-04), then amended (2013-01-21), by Ecuador's Presidency, and specifies the dates of Ecuador's non-working public holidays for the calendar years 2013, 2014, and 2015.
However, in a separate communiqué, the Asociación de Bancos Privados del Ecuador announced that with the permission of the Superintendencia de Bancos del Ecuador it would observe a bank holiday ("solo operarán los cajeros automáticos, en las entidades bancarias del país") on Thursday, December 31, 2015.
