After days of uncertainty as to what would be done, this year, to compensate the fact that the 2015 annual National Day public holiday in Qatar, coincides with the Qatari weekend, the Qatari Government finally announced, earlier tonight, that it had declared Sunday, December 20, 2015, as a one-off public holiday in Qatar to link the annual National Day public holiday in Qatar, to compensate the fact that the 2015 annual National Day public holiday in Qatar, coincides with the Qatari weekend.

As per the aforementioned announcement, Sunday, December 20, 2015, has been as a one-off public holiday in Qatar to link the annual National Day public holiday in Qatar, to compensate the fact that the 2015 annual National Day public holiday in Qatar, coincides with the Qatari weekend ("The Emiri Diwan announces that on the occasion of the National Day of the State, corresponding to December 18, 2015 it has been decided that Sunday December 20, 2015 will be an official holiday and that employees shall resume their duties on Monday").

December 18 was made into an annual public holiday by virtue of Qatar Law No. 61 of 2007 (2007-06-22). In compensation for this new public holiday, beginning in 2007, September 3 was no longer a public holiday in Qatar (2007-08-22). The change was later made permanent by the "Decision of the Cabinet of Ministers No. (6) of 2008, Setting the Official Holidays in the State and Organizing Work thereon" guidelines on official public holidays, and bank holidays, in Qatar (2008-02-06).

Since then, whenever December 18, the annual Qatari National Day public holiday, falls on Wednesday, one day away from the following Qatari weekend (1999-09-18), or on the weekend (2013-12-17, 2010-12-15 and 2009-12-11), an additional non-working public holiday is declared in Qatar.
