The government of Suriname has announced that Wednesday, July 1st, 2015, would be a non-working public holiday on account of the annual "Dag der Vrijheden" (Emancipation Day) for the calendar year 2015.
Two years ago (2013-06-26), the Suriname Raad van Ministers (Council of Ministers) has announced that Monday, July 1st, 2013, would be a one-off non-working public holiday throughout Suriname to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the emancipation of slaves ("150 jaar Afschaffing van de Slavernij").
The July 1st non-working public holiday in Suriname was then maintained in the subsequent announcements of non-working public holidays in Suriname for the years 2014 and 2015 (2015-01-26, 2014-03-17, 2014-02-12 and 2014-01-15).
