The Conseil fédéral (the Executive Federal Council of Switzerland) has turned-down a proposal by Bern region Green MP, Aline Trede, to declare March 16 as a new annual non-working federal public holiday in Switzerland.

The declaration of March 16 as a new annual non-working federal public holiday in Switzerland, would have been to commemorate the date, in 1971, when Swiss women obtained the right to vote.
