The Government of Tanzania has issued a communiqué stating that the earlier directive by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, John Pombe Magufuli, cancelling the parades and other government celebrations, on the upcoming annual, December 9, Independence and Republic Day non-working public holiday of Tanzania, did not imply that the 2015 Independence and Republic Day non-working public holiday of Tanzania had been canceled.

Last month, the recently elected (04-Nov-2015) Tanzanian President, John Pombe Magufuli, had issued a directive that "All Tanzanians should use that day, 9 December 2015, to perform different jobs on farms, in offices, in industries and most importantly to clean the surroundings of their homes, marketplaces and places of work" and that "As from the next anniversary, the day will be celebrated again as a public holiday with traditional festivities".
