The Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Rufus Ewing, has issued a statement clarifying the status and observance of the recently-declared, February 5, 2015, non-working public holiday by the Government Cabinet of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Last month (2015-01-22), the Office Of Public Service Management of the Turks and Caicos Islands had announced that the Government Cabinet of the Turks and Caicos Islands had decided to declare Thursday, February 5, 2015, as a one-off nationwide non-working public holiday throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands, to coincide with the date of the state funeral of Dr. Rosita Butterfield, thus amending the list of official non-working public holidays in the Turks and Caicos Islands, for the calendar year 2015, which was released by the Office Of Public Service Management of the Turks and Caicos Islands, last autumn (2014-10-09).

Then, late last month (2015-01-29), the Deputy Governor's office and the TCIG Press Office of the Turks and Caicos Islands issued a communique announcing that the recently-declared, February 5, 2015, non-working public holiday by the Government Cabinet of the Turks and Caicos Islands, to coincide with the date of the state funeral of Dr. Rosita Butterfield, would be limited to the public sector.
