The Algerian public sector ministry (Direction Générale de la Fonction Publique) has announced that Monday, October 3, 2016, had been declared as a non-working public holiday in Algeria on account of the upcoming Hijri 1438 Islamic New Year annual non-working public holiday of Algeria.
As usual (2016-07-01, 2015-10-13, 2014-10-03, 2014-07-27, 2013-11-13, 2012-11-14, 2012-08-17 and 2011-02-13), the aforementioned announcement that Monday, October 3, 2016, had been declared as a non-working public holiday in Algeria ("La journée, coïncidant avec le 1er jour de Mouharram, est chômée et payée pour l’ensemble des personnels des institutions et administrations publiques" and following with "le jour de l’achoura est prévue pour le mercredi 12 octobre 2016") on account of the Hijri 1437 Islamic New Year, follows an earlier communiqué by the Algerian Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments (Ministère des Affaires religieuses et du Wakf).
Recall that, 7 years ago (2009-07-24), the Algerian government changed its weekends from Thursday/Friday to the "mixed" or "semi-universal" Friday/Saturday weekend.
