The Guatemalan Government has released its annual list of official non-working public holidays in Guatemala for the calendar year 2016.
The aforementioned dates of the aforementioned list of official non-working public holidays in Guatemala for the calendar year 2016, as before (2015-01-03), are in line with the terms of the DECRETO NÚMERO 42-2010 ("Ley que promueve el Turismo Interno") (2010-11-16), passed in 2010, which mandates that fixed-date public holidays falling on a Tuesday be moved to the previous Monday, while those falling on a Wednesday or Thursday, are to be moved to the following Friday ("los feriados que caigan martes se gozarán un día antes, y los que caigan miércoles o jueves pasarán al viernes"). The date of fixed-date public holidays falling on a weekend are to remain unchanged ("los de sábado y domingo no cambian").
In 2016, the effects of the "Decreto Número 42-2010" will be limited to the Army Day annual non-working public holiday of Guatemala, in line with the recently-released (2016-01-15) list of Guatemalan bank holidays for the calendar year 2016.
