The Iraqi Government, via the Iraqi Cabinet, has once again declared a 2-day mandatory period of non-working public holidays in Iraq, this time on Monday and Tuesday, August 1-2, 2016, due to forecasted high temperatures.

Last year (2015-07-29 and 2015-07-15), the Iraqi Government had similarly declared 2 periods of one-off non-working public holidays in Iraq due to expected high temperatures, and earlier this month (2016-07-19), the Iraqi Government declared a 2-day mandatory period of non-working public holidays in Iraq, on Wednesday and Thursday, July 20-21, 2016, also due to forecasted high temperatures.

Such weather related public holidays are routinely declared in Iraq (2016-07-19, 2015-07-29, 2015-07-15, 2013-07-17, 2012-07-25 and 2011-08-01). Neighboring Iran also regularly declares weather and pollution-related public holidays (2013-01-03, 2012-12-03, 2010-11-29, 2010-11-22 and 2009-07-07), while Jordan and Lebanon also sometimes declare weather-related non-working public holidays in Jordan and Lebanon, but usually for cold weather (2015-02-18, 2015-01-10, 2015-01-07, 2015-01-06).
