Madagascar's "ministère de la Fonction publique et de la réforme administrative, du travail et des lois sociales", has announced that it is drafting a decree, expected next Tuesday, to declare Friday, November 25, 2016, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Madagascar on account of the upcoming "Sommet de la Francophonie".

Recall that, earlier this month (2016-11-04), we had reported that Madagascar's president, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, had announced that he was considering, but had not yet decided if, a week of non-working public holidays would be declared in Madagascar for the upcoming "Sommet de la Francophonie".

Contrary to what had been expected, the declaration of Friday, November 25, 2016, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Madagascar on account of the upcoming "Sommet de la Francophonie", will apply to both the public and private sectors ("Cette décision concernera aussi les employés du secteur privé, et pas seulement les fonctionnaires").

The aforementioned declaration of Friday, November 25, 2016, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Madagascar for the upcoming "Sommet de la Francophonie", is in addition to the previously-released "Décret du 4 janvier 2016 fixant la liste des jours fériés, chômés et payés au titre de l'année 2016", listing the non-working public holidays in Madagascar for the calendar year 2016 (2016-01-27 and 2016-01-05), which had then been amended last summer (2016-08-31).
