The Mongolian government has confirmed Monday, October 31, 2016, as the date for the upcoming 2016 Chinggis Khaan annual non-working public holiday in Mongolia, added a few years ago to the list of annual non-working public holidays in Mongolia.
Four years ago (2012-11-08 and 2012-10-28) the Mongolian Parliament approved the addition of a new annual public holiday in Mongolia to commemorate the birthday of Chinggis Khaan (Genghis Khan). Originally, the Government of Mongolia had wanted to mark the new public holiday for the birthday of Chinggis Khaan on November 14th, every year. But in the end, it was agreed that the new annual public holiday in Mongolia will occur on the first day of the first day of winter, according to the Mongolian Lunisolar calendar.
The new Chinggis Khaan public holiday in Mongolia was compensated by the cancellation of the November 26 Independence Day public holiday, although this might not have been obvious to the population as November 21, 2012, was then declared a one-off non-working public holiday in Mongolia (2012-11-16) and a couple of years later (2015-12-09), the Mongolian government announced that Tuesday, December 29, 2015, would be a non-working public holiday in Mongolia, on account of the upcoming commemoration of Mongolian "Restoration of National Freedom and Independence".
In 2013 and 2014, the date initially announced for that same year's Chinggis Khaan public holiday in Mongolia (2014-01-02, 2013-10-30 and 2013-09-25), was later revised, based on the Tögs Buyant Mongolian lunar calendar.
