The "Norfolk Island Continued Laws Amendment (Public Holidays) Ordinance 2016" initiated by the Administrator of the Australian Territory of Norfolk Island, Gary Hardgrave, to specify in detail the dates and occurrences of non-working public holidays on Norfolk Island, was gazetted on December 14, 2016, and took effect the next day.

Today's gazetting of the "Norfolk Island Continued Laws Amendment (Public Holidays) Ordinance 2016" governing non-working public holidays in Norfolk Island, was preceded, last month (2016-11-05), by a draft of the same "Norfolk Island Continued Laws Amendment (Public Holidays) Ordinance 2016" submitted for public comment, before it was to be tabled in the legislature by the Administrator of the Australian Territory of Norfolk Island, Gary Hardgrave, to regulate to replace the current legislation governing non-working public holidays in Norfolk Island.

The "Norfolk Island Continued Laws Amendment (Public Holidays) Ordinance 2016" goes into painstaking detail as to what happens when each and every holiday falls on a given weekday or weekend, and it is not clear is there will be a need for the annual gazetting of non-working public holidays on Norfolk Island as was a staple of each year (2016-07-03, 2015-03-23, 2014-05-05, 2013-06-30, 2012-07-30, 2011-06-07, 2010-07-24, 2009-09-04, 2008-09-05, 2007-07-06, 2006-09-08, 2005-10-07, 2004-10-22, 2003-11-25, 2002-09-20, 2001-10-19, and 2000-09-22).
