The Chief Executive Officer of the Samoan Ministry of Commerce, Industry And Labour (M.C.I.L) has announced that the government of Samoa had declared Wednesday to Friday, June 1-3, 2016, as non-working public holidays in Samoa on account of the upcoming 54th Samoan Independence Day Celebrations.

As per the correction to the 2016 public holidays notice, and in line with section 2 of the Public Holidays Act 2008, Wednesday and Thursday, June 1-2, 2016, will be public holidays, while Friday, June 3, 2016, will be a "Commissioned Holiday for Public Servants only".

Last year already (2015-05-27), the Chief Executive Officer of the Samoan Ministry of Commerce, Industry And Labour, Auelua Samuelu Enari, had announced that the government of Samoa had declared Tuesday, June 2, 2015, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Samoa to extend the upcoming, June 1st, non-working public holiday in Samoa on account of the 53rd Independence Day.

The declaration of Wednesday to Friday, June 1-3, 2016, as non-working public holidays in Samoa on account of the upcoming 54th Samoan Independence Day Celebrations, is in addition to the quadrennial list of official non-working public holidays in Samoa for the calendar years 2015-2016-2017-2018, as released by the Samoan Ministry of Commerce, Industry And Labour in past years (2014-04-20 and 2011-09-06), and follows a series of similar rugby and election-related one-off public holidays in Samoa (2016-02-17, 2010-06-05, 2010-06-02, 2007-04-12 and 2007-04-06).
