The Governor of the US Virgin Islands, Kenneth Mapp, has once again declared a one-off additional public sector holiday in the US Virgin Islands to be observed as a public sector holiday in the US Virgin Islands on the day after Thanksgiving 2016, namely Friday, November 25, 2016.

The aforementioned declaration of Friday, November 25, 2016, as a one-off additional public sector holiday in the US Virgin Islands to be observed as a public sector holiday in the US Virgin Islands on the day after Thanksgiving 2016 ("The holiday season is upon our territory, and we all look forward to the gathering of family and friends on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016. I would like to extend that holiday and grant administrative leave on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016."), is in addition to the list of of non-working public holidays in the US Virgin Islands for the calendar year 2016, as released by then Governor, John P. de Jongh, Jr., late last year (2015-11-30).

The announcement of additional public sector holidays is a staple of the US Virgin Islands' calendar of non-working public holidays (2015-04-25, 2014-12-22, 2011-12-20, 2010-12-28, 2006-12-21, 2005-12-06, 2004-12-22, 2003-12-17, and 2002-12-16), though such declarations of additional public holidays in the US Virgin Islands have become more rare in the past couple of years.
