Indian Tamil Nadu Public Holiday January 17

The Chief Secretary of the Government of India's state of Tamil Nadu, Girija Vaithiyanathan, has released a Government Order declaring a one-off non-working public holiday in India's state of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, to mark the birth centenary of former Chief Minister and AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran.

The aforementioned announcement that the Government of India's state of Tamil Nadu had declared a one-off non-working public holiday in India's state of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, to mark the birth centenary of former Chief Minister and AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran, is in addition to the list of the days which are be non-working public holidays in India's state of Tamil Nadu for the calendar year 2017, as set out in the "Public (Miscellaneous) Department G.O. Ms. No. 893", released last autumn (2016-11-15).

Note that in neighboring Puducherry, the opposition AIADMK has been urging the Puducherry government to declare January 17 a public holiday, to observe the birth centenary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M G Ramachandran.
