Moldova's Cabinet has decided to declare Monday, May 8, 2017, as a one-off bridge public sector holiday in Moldova to link the weekend to the annual May 9 Victory Day public holiday of Moldova.

The declaration of Monday, May 8, 2017, as a one-off bridge public sector holiday in Moldova to link the weekend to the annual May 9 Victory Day public holiday of Moldova, had originally been announced last autumn (2016-10-17), when the government of Moldova announced an extension to the list of 2017 annual non-working public holidays in Moldova ("cu privire la zilele de odihna în anul 2017"), by adding 3 one-off 2017 non-working public holidays in Moldova to the annual official list of non-working public holidays in Moldova for the calendar year 2017.

However, later that autumn (2016-12-02), the proposal to add 3 one-off 2017 non-working public holidays in Moldova to the annual official list of non-working public holidays in Moldova, was stalled by opposition to it from Deputy Education Minister, Christine Boag, and was placed on hold "sine die".

As usual (2015-12-16, 2015-10-26, 2013-12-07, 2013-02-08, 2012-02-22 and 2011-08-10), the aforementioned decision by the Moldovan Cabinet of Ministers to declare Monday, May 8, 2017, a one-off non-working public holiday will be compensated by Saturday, May 20, 2017, being declared a regular working day in Moldova.
