Nicaragua's Ministry of Labour (MITRAB) has announced that Thursday, December 7, 2017, would be an additional public sector non-working public holiday in Nicaragua ("Nuestro Presidente ha aprobado que el jueves 7 de diciembre los trabajadores tengamos asueto, hasta mediodía trabajamos, por la tarde tenemos libre. El 8 es un día (completo) de asueto con goce de salario, es un día de fiesta nacional") on account of the December 8, annual, Immaculate Conception Day public holiday in Nicaragua.

Last minute announcements of additional public and/or private sector full day/afternoon public sector holidays in Nicaragua, around the December 8, "Inmaculada Concepción de María", have been common over the years (2016-12-05, 2014-12-03, 2013-12-06, 2012-11-24, 2011-11-29, 2010-12-06 and 2009-11-21).

Two years ago (2015-12-02), Nicaragua's Ministry of Labour had similarly announced that Monday, December 7, 2015, would be an additional public sector non-working public holiday in Nicaragua ("asueto a cuenta de vacaciones") on account of the December 7, Día de la Gritería, leading to the December 8, annual, Immaculate Conception Day public holiday in Nicaragua, and last year (2016-12-05), Wednesday and Friday, December 7 and 9, 2016, were declared additional public sector non-working public holidays in Nicaragua, also on account of the December 8, annual, Immaculate Conception Day public holiday in Nicaragua.

In all cases, December 8 is a non-working public holiday in Nicaragua for both the private and public sectors ("Se declara el día jueves Ocho de Diciembre del año en curso, día Feriado Nacional para todos los trabajadores del sector público y privado, por celebrarse en dicha fecha, el día de la Inmaculada Concepción de María").
