At an extraordinary cabinet meeting earlier today, chaired by Seychelles President, Danny Faure, Cabinet approved an amendment to the Public Holidays Act to make Easter Monday a non-working public holiday in the Seychelles, and remove June 5 as an annual non-working public holiday in the Seychelles.
In his New Year's televised message to the Nation (2017-01-01), Seychelles President, Danny Faure, had announced that he would propose an amendment to the law that governs public holidays in the Seychelles, swapping the June 5 annual public holiday of the Seychelles for Easter Monday ("I've decided to propose an amendment to the law that governs public holidays. Firstly, the Monday following Easter Sunday will be a public holiday, a day where we continue to celebrate that which is greater than all of us: our Creator. Secondly, the 5th of June will be a normal working day, reinforcing the unity of our people") and this was applied de facto (2017-01-21 and 2017-01-11) although not yet approved by Cabinet until today.
