UK Mulls Queen Sapphire Jubilee Public Holiday In 2017

The "Queen's Sapphire Jubilee Bill" has been introduced to UK's Parliament by Conservative MP for Romford, Andrew Rosindell, under the Ten Minute Rule as a Private Member’s Bill "to make provision for a national public holiday marking the Queen’s Sapphire Jubilee in 2017".

Recall that Conservative MP, Andrew Rosindell, is the same MP whose bill, over 7 years ago (2009-12-27), was approved by the UK Parliament thus creating an additional one-off public holiday to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, with the annual Spring Bank Holiday moved by a week to Monday, June 4, 2012.

A one-off public holiday had also been declared for the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002 (2001-06-19 and 2000-11-24) and her Silver Jubilee in 1977, and as an historical aside, in 1897, a one-off public holiday was also declared in the UK to coincide with Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.

This time, however the bill comes a mere months before the expected date of such a possible Sapphire Jubilee public holiday in the UK, with the bill's second reading scheduled for May 12, 2017.
