Gambia 2018 Maulud Nabi Public Holiday Announced

The Office of the President of the Gambia, Adama Barrow, has announced that he had declared Tuesday, November 20, 2018, as a public holiday throughout the Gambia in honour of "Maulud-nabi", locally called "Gamo" to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The aforementioned announcement that Tuesday, November 20, 2018, had been declared as a public holiday throughout the Gambia to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad, is in line with the announcement, a decade ago (01-Sep-2009), by then President Yaya Jammeh and the Gambian Supreme Islamic Council (SIC), that from then on the dates of Muslim public holidays would be calculated in line with the Umm al-Qura calendar used by Saudi Arabia (which does not observe a public holiday for the Prophet's Birthday).
