The Governor of Guam, Eddie Calvo, has once again declared the Friday after the upcoming Thanksgiving non-working public holiday of Guam, Friday, November 23, 2018, as a one-off GovGuam public sector holiday in Guam.
As per the aforementioned Executive Order, the Friday after the upcoming Thanksgiving non-working public holiday of Guam was granted to Guam public servants to "to spend a day with their families, to rest and to re-energize", and is in addition to the official list of non-working public holidays in Guam for the calendar year 2018 as released late last year (2017-12-30).
With the exception of 2 years ago (2016-11-22), when Governor Calvo did not declare Friday, November 25, 2016, the day after the Thanksgiving non-working public holiday of Guam, as another one-off GovGuam public sector holiday in Guam, this was done most other recent years, such as last year (2017-11-21), when Governor Calvo declared Friday, November 24, 2017, as a one-off public sector holiday for civil servants ("to use the holiday to spend time with their families, begin your holiday shopping and shop local"), or in 2014, when a similar declaration of Friday, November 28, 2014, as a one-off GovGuam public sector holiday in Guam was made to allow civil servants "to rest and re-energize") (2014-11-21), and a few years before (2011-11-22), the Governor Calvo, had similarly declared Friday, November 25, 2011, the day after Thanksgiving, as a GovGuam public sector holiday granted for public servants to "Rest, take a break and re-energize" after a difficult year marked by "suspension of pay raises and increments".
