Guatemalan vice-president, Jafeth Cabrera, has confirmed that the Guatemalan government has declared Monday, April 16, 2018, as a one-off non-working public sector holiday in Guatemala on account of the upcoming elections.
As usual, voting is actually on Sunday, but as is common in Latin America, voters need to go back to their home villages to vote and a non-working public holidays is often given on the day following elections to give voters time to return to their place of employment, as was the case on past occasions (2015-10-23, 2011-11-02, 2011-09-07 and 2007-08-24).
