The Guatemalan Government has submitted for accelerated consideration a Law of Internal Tourism which mandates that that public holidays falling on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays, should be moved to the working day immediately before or after the weekend.
The aforementioned Law of Internal Tourism is similar to the terms of the DECRETO NÚMERO 42-2010 ("Ley que promueve el Turismo Interno") (16-Nov-2010 and 13-May-2010), passed in 2010, which mandates that fixed-date public holidays falling on a Tuesday be moved to the previous Monday, while those falling on a Wednesday or Thursday, are to be moved to the following Friday ("los feriados que caigan martes se gozarán un día antes, y los que caigan miércoles o jueves pasarán al viernes"), with the exception that the 2010 decree does not cover weekend public holidays which remain unchanged ("los de sábado y domingo no cambian").
