The Government of India's state of Puducherry has declared a one-off non-working public holiday on Monday, November 5, 2018, the day before Deepavali.

The aforementioned announcement, contained in the G.O. Ms. No. 78, that India's state of Puducherry had declared a one-off non-working public holiday on Monday, November 5, 2018, the day before Deepavali ("The Lieutenant Governor, Puducherry is pleased to declare 5th November, 2018 (Monday) as a local Holiday on account of Deepavali eve for Puducherry and Karaikal regions which was earlier declared as Restricted Holiday vide G.O. cited above and in lieu thereof 1st December, 2018 (Saturday) will be a Compensatory working day for Puducherry and Karaikal regions. This leave is NOT covered under Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881"), further amends (2018-09-20, 2018-08-07 and 2018-06-14) the Government of India's State of Puducherry's announced list of official state non-working public holidays in India's State of Puducherry for the calendar year 2018, as released last autumn (2017-11-26).

As compensation, Saturday, December 1, 2018, will be a regular working day.

Note that in the territory of Yanam, a similar one-off non-working public holiday was declared, via the G.O. Ms. No. 73, on Tuesday, November 6, instead ("In partial modification of the G.O cited above, the Lieutenant Governor, Puducherry is pleased to declare 6th November, 2018 (Tuesday) as a local Holiday on account of Deepavali eve for Yanam region which was earlier declared as Restricted Holiday vide G.O. cited above and in lieu thereof 1st December, 2018 (Saturday) will be a Compensatory working day for Yanam region.
