The President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has issued a proclamation declaring Wednesday and Thursday, March 14-15, 2018, as non-working public holidays to be observed throughout the Republic of Liberia as national non-working public holidays marking "the 209th Birth Anniversary of Liberia's first President Joseph Jenkins Roberts" and Decoration Day, respectively.

The aforementioned J.J. Roberts public holiday was set aside as an annual non-working public holiday by an Act passed by the Third Session of the 42nd National Legislature of the Republic of Liberia, while the Liberian legislature enacted a law on October 24, 1916, declaring the second Wednesday in March of every year as Decoration Day.

Such last-minute re-confirmation of annual public holidays are a staple of the Liberian public holidays calendar (2017-05-12, 2017-02-09, 2016-08-22, 2016-05-12, 2015-04-09, 2015-03-14, 2014-07-17, 2014-04-10, 2013-04-05, 2013-03-13, 2012-11-27, 2012-10-31, 2012-07-23, 2011-11-01, 2011-04-06, 2010-11-03, 2010-07-23 and 2010-04-08).
