Last week in Myanmar's Lower House, responding to a question by Myebon Township MP, U Pe Than, the Myanmar Union Ethnic Affairs Minister, Nai Thet Lwin, replied that the Union government of Myanmar had no plan to designate days that are of significance to ethnicities as public holidays in Myanmar.

The dates of the official Myanmar bank holidays and non-working public holidays in coming calendar year are usually announced in late autumn (2017-11-30, 2016-11-20, 2015-11-13, 2014-11-03, 2013-11-01, 2012-12-18, 2011-10-19, and 2010-09-21), with some one-off (2017-03-10) and then annually extended (2017-03-14) reduction of the 10-day Thingyan and Burmese New Year public holidays in Myanmar, to 5 days.
