Oman's state news agency has announced the dates of the upcoming annual National Day annual non-working public holidays for the public sector and the private sector in Oman, for the calendar year 2018, as well as that of the upcoming Prophet's birthday annual public holiday of Oman in 2018.
As per the aforementioned announcements for the public sector ("On the occasion of the the Prophet's (PBUH) birthday and the glorious 48th National Day, and as per the Royal Orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, the official holiday for these two occasions will be from Tuesday, November 20 to Thursday, November 22. Work will resume on Sunday, November 25.") and for the private sector ("Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, Minister of Manpower issued a decision stating that the holiday for the Prophet's birthday and the 48th Glorious National Day for private sector companies and establishments will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, November 20, 21, 22"), as was the case last year (2017-11-19), both the private and public sectors will thus benefit from a 5-day National Day of public holidays.
The dates of Oman's National Day, November 18-19, are by tradition regular working days (2009-11-18), and the actual dates of the corresponding public holidays dates are announced at the last minute for a later date (2016-11-16, 2015-11-18, 2014-11-18, 2013-11-13, 2012-11-19, 2011-11-19, 2010-12-11, 2009-11-20, 2008-11-17, 2007-11-13, and 2006-11-16), usually at the end of November, except in 2009-2010-2011 to avoid a collision with the Eid al Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) and Islamic New Year public holiday in Oman, as well as in 2015, for no obvious reason.
The date of the non-working public holiday in Oman for the Prophet's Birthday, for both the private sector and the public sector of Oman, is often moved around (2016-12-06, 2015-12-16, 2014-12-29, 2014-01-08, 2013-01-23, 2012-06-10 and 2012-01-31).
